Take a short ride north of Apache Junction and spend a day on one of the man-made lakes, competing with local eagles for fish, renting a pontoon boat, or enjoying the local color of Tortilla Flat.
Globe was once a silver mining boom town, while Miami was the site of copper deposits found in the 1880s. Besh-Ba-Gowah Archaeological Park, an Indian ruin, is a fascinating place to experience how the original Salado Indian residents lived during the 13th and 14th centuries. Just east of Globe is the San Carlos Indian Reservation, once the home of Geronimo.
